Chapter 7 is used to
eliminate unsecured debt. Typically, you get rid of
credit cards, personal loans, repossession
deficiencies, medical bills, check credit, uninsured
accident liability, and similar debt.
You
cannot eliminate: government-insured or
not-for-profit educational benefits or student
loans; drunk driving personal injury liability;
tickets or fines; withholding taxes; personal income
taxes unless you filed a return, told the truth, and
more than 3 years have passed since the tax return
was due (usually April 15 following the year), liens
on property you bought, real estate taxes, fraud,
intentional acts and similar debt.
